Derek Hough is revealing that wife Hayley Erbert Hough had to undergo emergency surgery following a performance Wednesday night.
The professional dancer and "Dancing with the Stars" judge, 38, shared in an Instagram post Thursday that Erbert, 29, was hospitalized due to a "cranial hematoma."
"At the end of last night's tour performance in Washington, D.C., my wife Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital," he wrote. "She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy. She is in stable condition."
An intracranial hematoma is a "collection of blood within the skull," according to the Mayo Clinic, usually "caused by a blood vessel that bursts in the brain," but can also "be caused by trauma such as a car accident or fall. The blood may collect in the brain tissue or underneath the skull, pressing on the brain."
"I want to thank the first responders and medical personnel who have cared for and continue to care for her. I ask for your prayers and positivity during this time," Hough said in his post.
According to Hough's website, his tour, Symphony of Dance, stopped in Oxon Hill, Maryland – which is across the Maryland-D.C border – on Wednesday.
The next show is scheduled for Thursday night at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Ticketmaster page for the event is still live.
USA TODAY has reached out to Hough's representative and the tour's producers for more information.

Fellow celebrities flooded the comments of Hough's post with prayers for Erbert.
"DWTS" professional dancer Emma Slater commented, "Omg derek, thinking of you guys right now. Sending Hayley so much love and healing light."
Former "DWTS" pro Allison Holker wrote that she is "sending all of my love, healing and prayers!"
"Oh my friend sending love and keeping her in our thoughts for a full recovery" Josh Groban commented. "So scary."
The Symphony of Dance show features intricate routines by a full ensemble, backed by a live band. The touring show is filled with expressions of love in Hough's life, including a choreographed version of the couple's wedding dance to "Fall into Me," by Forest Blakk. "Every time we rehearse it, I cry," he said.
"If we get over-frazzled, we take a moment where we just look into each other's eyes and say, 'I love you,'" Hough told USA TODAY before embarking on the tour. "When I hear those words, it's like juice; I feel unstoppable."
The couple tied the knot in August, saying "I do" in front of family and friends in a redwood forest in Northern California’s Monterey County on Aug. 26, People magazine reported. Hough’s publicist Susan Madore confirmed the wedding to USA TODAY.
The couple began dating in 2015 after meeting on "DWTS": Erbert was a dancer on the show for seven seasons and four tours. Before joining the judge’s table, Hough, the younger brother of Julianne Hough, was a "DWTS" pro dancer, winning the coveted Mirrorball Trophy a record-breaking six times in the televised dance competition. They announced their engagement on June 2, 2022, with joint Instagram posts.
